Commercial Roofing In BarrieWHat Is Commercial Roofing?
Commercial roofing structures and residential roofing structures principally have the same purpose of protecting property. However, commercial roofing companies and commercial roofing contractors showcase the differences between these two roofing systems through their costs, material used and the angle of the slope on which the roof is built. Since commercial roofs are usually used for bigger plot sizes, it is common that the cost of a commercial roof will be higher than the cost of a residential roof. Unlike residential roofs that are heavily sloped and angled, commercial roofs often take the design of a low sloped roof or embrace the practice of commercial flat roofing. Additionally, residential roofing systems are most commonly built from Asphalt shingles or concrete tiles. By contrast, commercial roofing systems vary in their build and the material used. For example, commercial roofing repairs and commercial flat roofing frequently incorporates the use of single-ply / flat roof membrane material such as PVC, EPDM or TPO, but can also integrate a built-up roofing system consisting of tar and gravel or a metal roofing system consisting of different types of steel. More details on the different types of roofing systems, their benefits and our quality guarantee are provided below.

We offer the service of metal roofing and metal roof repair services.
Metal roofs are a prevalent type of commercial roof because of their durability, variety and heat resistance. To add these benefits of metal roofs, they are also highly impact resistant and can withstand extremely high winds. Metal roofing systems come in a variety of materials and design choices. These include, but are not limited to, stainless steel, corrugated aluminum sheet, corrugated galvanized steel, copper, tin, silicon-coated steel, metal tiles and stone-coated steel. Since there are many colors to choose from, customers often are able to select a design they like or inquire about steel roof painting. This metal roofing system can take the angles of a flat metal roof or a sloping flat roof (low sloped roof). The sloping flat roof design is also known as standing seem roofing, which requires the mechanically seeming of interlocking panels to ensure a watertight seal. The low sloped roof designs protect against any rain and snow damage, while proactively removing any leak-related issues through its advanced draining capabilities. Given that this roof is made primarily from steel ridged metal, it does not suffer the same dilapidation of other roofs made from more natural/organic material. In view of the fact that this roofing system is mainly based on steel roofing, it is recommended that your commercial roofing contractor add extra coatings of rust prevention and UV protection. |
We offer the construction of a built-up roofing system (also referred to as BUR membrane roofing) and any roofing maintenance.
The BUR membrane roofing system is also a common commercial roofing choice because of its toughness. This durability stems from structure of the roofing system which contains numerous layers of asphalt (also known as bitumen) and roofing felts. Asphalt is a known waterproof material and is available as “bulk” asphalt” or “Modified Bitumen” in which is it altered to become more flexible. More information on a modified bitumen roofing system is available below. The multi-layered design of the BUR roof leads to its name of “built-up roof” because each layer (or pile) of material reinforces the alternative layer. In other words, if one layer of material collapses, the roofing system is instantly fortified by the other piles of asphalt and felt. It should be noted that the felt material is secured by glass-fiber mats or ply sheets. When these felt sheets are in combination with the asphalt, this roofing system produces a sturdy roof membrane. Besides its incredible membrane strength, the built-up commercial roofing system also offers high resistance to thermal shock, punctures and has minimal maintenance requirements after its installation. |
We offer the construction of a modified bitumen roofing system and any roofing maintenance.
As mentioned before, modified bitumen roofing systems (also known as mod-bit roofs) contain factory-altered Asphalt layers, that have been infused with rubber or another plastic ingredient to create more flexibility in the material. While the primary purpose of modifying the asphalt is flexibility, there are other added benefits - these come in the form of membrane strength and stability. A mod-bit roof is affixed to the commercial structure in a two-ply system, that reinforces and increases membrane strength. Depending on the type of molecule added to the asphalt, the technique of sheet installation will vary. APP (atactic polypropylene) and SBS (styrene butadiene styrene) are the two most common molecules added to the asphalt to achieve this increase in flexibility, strength and stability. Similar to the built-up roofing system, the modified bitumen system also incorporates additional reinforcements in the roof membrane. These include, but are not limited to, polyester mats and fibreglass. Any variation of a commercial modified bitumen roof is a 100% waterproof system, that is easy to install and cost efficient in its construction and maintenance. |
We offer the construction of single-ply membrane systems and their maintenance services.
Single-ply roofing consists of roofing membranes that are made up of flexible sheets of rubber and other factory-made synthetic materials. There are two major types of single-ply roofing membranes, that are classified based on the materials used. 1. EPDM Roof MembraneThe Thermoset roof membrane is mostly made from Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) rubber. EPDM rubber is a resilient type of rubber that is available in black or white. This material is heat resistant and highly resistant to ozone and UV lights. Additionally, Thermoset roofs are resistant to most acids, chemicals and alcohols. The installation process for a Thermoset roof is one of the least complex among the commercial roofing systems. The EPDM roofing system has been used as a commercial flat roof for over 45 years and has an excellent track record for being a flexible, reliable and sturdy roofing structure.
2. Thermoplastic PVC & TPO Roof MembraneThermoplastic roof membranes consist of synthetic sheets of Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) and Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) molecules created in a factory setting. PVC and TPO molecules soften when heated, harden when cooled and are the most prevalent type of synthetic material used in Thermoplastic roofing. Thermoplastic roofing systems are one of the most vented flat roof systems available. They are perfect for any commercial business that needs to exhaust fumes, oils or other gases from their ventilation systems. Additionally, like the Thermoset roof membrane, are heat resistant and highly resistant to ozone and UV lights.
Many factors should be considered when making the decision of what single-ply roofing system is best for your business. For example, the design of your business, traffic on the roof, wind conditions and cost are a few of the factors that be measured, but your contractor may identify more. It is highly recommended you consult with one of our commercial roofing specialists before diving into this decision. |
While this roofing system is more prevalent in the residential roofing sector, it is also used in commercial roofing as a flat roof or sloping flat roof. The two main types of shingles are Asphalt shingles and Architectural shingles. While Asphalt shingles are more common and cost-efficient, Architectural shingles provide an added layer of protection and weatherproofing, that ultimately leads to a longer roof lifespan. There are many advantages to shingle roofs, including the vast variety of designs (colours and materials) they are available in, their durability and their quick repair identification and service.
