Eavestrough aka Roof Gutter, Rain Gutter
Maintenance, Repair & Benefits

What is an Eavestrough?
Whether its heavy water flow from melting snow after a long winter season or from heavy rain fall in warmer weather, you’re roof will need a mechanism that will capture and direct the flow of water safely off your home. This will help ensure heavy water flow will not damage your property. This Channel-like trough that runs along the perimeter of your roof is known as an Eavestrough or a rain gutter . Once the water has been collected in the gutter's shaft, it’s flow is directed into vertical pipes, also known as Downspouts,  which drain the water from the roof safely to the ground. Seasonal maintenance is optimal as leaves clutter on top of the gutters in the spring and fall. Thus we have Gutter Guards that are designed as filters that keep the debris from clogging. An Eavestrough is also commonly known as a roof gutter, roof drain, water collection channel, or a rain gutter.

Different Types of Eavestrough
There are many different variations of Eavestrough now available on the market. The best way to classify Eavestroughs are based primarily on the materials it is made of and its structural shape. There are three main types of shapes;
  • K-Style which have flat backs and bottoms
  • Half-Round which are a semi-circle shape and a
  • Leaf Barrier style which consists of a hood attached curved edge lip that pulls the water through a narrow slit.
Rain gutters can be made from the following materials; Steele, Zinc, Aluminium, Vinyl and Copper.

Benefits of Eavestrough
Without an Eavestrough or gutter system in place, water will fall directly off your roof on the ground. Due to the increased velocity and randomized wide spread of water dropping with force around the perimeter of your home, quite a few problems may arise. Especially if this continues over time it will lead to significant property damage. For starters; you will notice mud splatters on the exterior walls of your home giving it a very dirty appearance. As this continues over time, the force of the water dropping on the soil will eventually erode and cause over saturation. Soil erosion along the perimeter of your home can cause foundational structural damage and should be corrected as soon as possible. These issues are all averted with the installation of an Eavestrough rain gutter system. The Eavestrough collects and channels all water from one’s roof efficiently into its downspouts draining it safely on the ground.

Additional benefits of Eavestrough include;

Yard Flooding Prevention
Without a proper roof gutter in place, water will fall randomly off your roof at rapidly fast pace. The excessive volume of water falling down so quickly may be too much for the ground level drainage system. This is very common during the spring season when snow starts to melt, and also during rainy times when water flow is very heavy. Thus intern will cause Yard flooding and in sever situations basement flooding as well. If your yard suffers from excess water flow, along with soil over saturation you may start to notice plants breaking apart and slowly die. Having an Eavestrough in place will help drain the heavy water flow into desired locations on your property at a medium controlled pace, thus will prevent this issue.

Basement Flooding Prevention
You may find your basement also start to flood under heavy water flow. Having an Eavestrough will help prevent the amount of water your ground level drainage system handles at a time which in turn will significantly lower your chances of a basement flood versus not having one. However in extreme weather conditions it is still possible for basements to flood, and it is important to note that an eavestrough gutter system does not 100% guarantee that your basement will never flood again. Assisting with basement flooding is one of its many benefits but it is not it’s primary function.

Roof Leaks & Structural Rotting Prevention.
Structural rotting may arise when snow melts and leaves water standing still on your on your roof. Some parts of your roof are connected to important structural components of your home. If these parts have accumulated water standing still on them for extended periods of time, they will start to sink into your home, thus resulting in a wet ceiling. Having a wet ceiling then further leads to internal mould growth, visible wet patches and even attic leaks inside your home. If the structure of your home becomes wet internally, it will undoubtedly translate into a decaying roof and ceiling. An Eavestrough with seasonal maintenance will prevent all of the potential problems by properly draining all the snow off your roof.

Eavestrough, Roof gutter, Rain gutter, Water Channeling System Bottomline; Why you need it.
If you don't want to have jump though a waterfall entrance when accessing your homes front door, if you want to prevent soil erosion and over saturation around the base perimeter of your home, protect your yard’s plants and greens from flooding, prevent potential attic leaks, basement leaks, wet ceilings and internal mold growth on the structure of your home and roof then and Eavestrough is highly recommended for you!
